Rolly Poley

Hey Peeps....it's Max! Just wanted to tell you about a little SITUATION I found myself in this morning....

It was circa 7 am. Daddy had just left to take BART to the city. Mommy was still in bed (but she says she was listening closely to me on the monitor.....whatever....) I was awake, but I wasn't upset or anything. Just talking to myself. Having a little conversation. With myself. I guess I fell asleep again after that. Maybe just dozed off.

And then....I figured I'd practice my rooooolllll-in'. Weeeeeeee! Over on my side! Uhhhhhh.....can't quite get ALL the way on my side....wait....wait....here it is! ON my side! OH NO....unraveling! Back on my back. DAMN.

What happened next is between me and Curious. He hangs out on the floor at night by my crib, but rumor has it, he saw the whole thing go down.

All I'll tell you is that suddenly I was no longer on my BACK like I was supposed to be. Nope. Not me, peeps. I was on my BELLY. Hangin' out in my crib, having some tummy time, circa 8 am. Which was all fun and games, until I got tired of the whole "early morning push ups" thing. Think I'll leave that to the marines. And maybe my Daddy.

So what's a totally advanced, rolling from back to belly, 4 month old to do now? Ummmmmm....start crying for Mommy. Yep. HELP!!!!!! Mommy!!!!! I'm stuck!!!!

Of course Mommy took her time walking down the hallway because she thought that I was just plain old waking up. Of course she never would have guessed that at just 4 1/2 months old I would've rolled from my back to my belly for the very first time, all by myself. Hah!! You should of seen the look on her face when she came in and saw me face down in my crib....Curious told me the look was pretty priceless.

All day today, Mommy tried to make me show her how I accomplished my amazing feat. Nope. Sorry Mama. Then she reminded me of our little agreement.....that I was supposed to wait to do any new tricks until she was watching, and that before I rolled onto my belly I was going to learn what to do once I GOT there. Like turn my face to the side so I can breathe. I guess my whole "nose smashed into the mattress, body wiggling real fast, crying like a little kitten who's stuck in a cage, FREAKING out about my predicament" isn't exactly what my next step is supposed to be.

So like I said...... "Mommmmmmmmmmy! HELP!!!!"

There's A First Time For Everything

Even colds.

Have you ever watched a 4 month old try to figure out why he can't breathe through his nose? Or what a "cough" is? Last night Max was rolling around in his crib, rubbing his tiny fists on his face, trying to make whatever sick feeling was infecting his head go away.

Poor, poor baby.

So today we went to the doctor, and had to go in the SICK Waiting Room. Yep, there's a seperate one. To quarantine kids with germs. Nice idea, except for the fact that when there's a sign on the door that tells you that every other child that has licked the toys in that room, spit up on the chairs in that room, and sneezed on the table in that room is even sicker than YOUR kid....it makes you want to temporarily stop breathing for the 10 minutes that you're waiting for your doctor.

And then they take you to the SICK exam rooms. And you can just smell the sleepless nights, and hear the snotty noses.

Our Dr. L wasn't there today, so we saw Dr. S. She's fantastic, though difficult to understand with her thick accent. What she didn't say, was "You are such an anxious mom! This child just has a damn COLD! Tis the season! Go home and give him some Tylenol, you big wuss!"

Of course she didn't. Instead, she greeted us with "Oh, my Max! When I got the note that he had a little fever I wanted him to come in right away! He is so small....we need to see him if he is sick! If he was five we would tell you to stay home, but oh no....he is so little!"

Ahhhhhh......drinking in the "you're not crazy" sympathy. It's like she climbed into my head and listened closely to the little voice that was screaming "my poor helpless baby is sick and I don't know how to fix it and I want to just rock him for hours and then throw myself on the floor of his room when he's sleeping so that I can listen to him breathe while simultaneously praying furiously that he starts to feel better". Makes me feel like less of a rookie.

Diagnosis? Bad cold, some trouble breathing when he is lying down, but otherwise....no H1N1, no RSV, no major wheezing that should cause concern. But she wants us to bring him back tomorrow just to be safe.

Prescription? Cool mist humidifier in his bedroom, saline spray and bulb syringe for his nose (this NEVER works, but whatever), Tylenol if needed, and watch him closely. Oh, and macaroni and cheese for dinner. With a side of fried clams.

Wait....that was for Mom and Dad. Why? Because Mom is sick too, and the food of her childhood makes her happy. VERY happy.

Meet My Park

What are YOU lookin' at?? So what if I fell asleep on the way to the park?! It's a damn long walk, and it's tiring being me!

Now that I'm awake, I can take a good look around. My Daddy, Aunt KT, Uncle Scottie, and Nana Nancy took me out to the park today, because Mommy is home sick. Yep, she's got a cold. And she doesn't want me to get sick, so she made Daddy promise to put my jacket on.....

See how I'm practicing sitting up?
Mommy doesn't know why blogger ate her pictures, but for some reason they're a little wacky in this post. Don't complain. Just roll with it. Turn your computer upside down. Or stand on your head. You'll get the idea....

Oy vey. I am DAMN cute.
No really......aren't I cute?

My Daddy's pretty cute too. Now stand on your head.

Look Who Came To Play!

My Nana Nancy, Aunt Katie, and Uncle Scottie came to visit! This is what I thought about seeing them......
It was great fun! Lots of laughs, lots of crazy jokes.....

Nana Nancy played a fun game with me where I got to bounce on her knee. She's an expert in speech and language for kids, and she diagnosed me as very gifted and talented in the verbal department!

Aunt Katie was great at feeding me. Wanna know a secret? I'm flipping everyone else the bird, and she doesn't even know it!! She thinks I'm such a good boy!!

Goin' On A Picnic

Max's Mommy hates the sun. Well, the 100+ degree days, at least. I'm not a vampire or anything, just very fair-skinned. And as you can see, Max gets his skin coloring from his Mommy. While Jack's Mommy LOVES the sun and the heat, Max's Mommy does not. So when the weather turned a little chilly (finally!), Jack's Mommy bundled him up and got cozy inside, and Max's Mommy bundled him up and took him out to play! Kinda like when Sus would sunbathe on the patio while I sat in front of the tiny AC box in our living room. Two Peas In A Pod, my Roomie and I......sort of :)

But I digress.

I've been waiting all summer for the weather to be tolerable. And on the first day of what felt like a true "Fall", our little family went to spend an afternoon in our neighborhood park. Max looked so peaceful and Zen lying back on the grass, watching the clouds go by, and feeling the cool breeze....

I dreamed of days like this, when I thought about what our little family would be like....

Not a great attempt at a self-portrait here, but I love how Max is holding both of us....so I couldn't resist posting it, in spite of my own vanity....

Taking a "walk" in the park.....

It wouldn't be a picnic without a little snack.....

Pretty soon, we may be visiting a swingset and sandbox near you!!!!

Two Peas In A Pod

Hey Jack! Thanks for inviting me over to your pad! As soon as I get out of this car seat, we can cause some real trouble!

Great Mommies think alike, because it was a little chilly out, and we ended up in matching outfits.....
Yeah....we get it Mommies.....can you put us down to play now?

Where, Oh Where, Is My Tooth?

It sure FEELS like something might be coming in......even if no one can see it! I'll just chew on Daddy's thumb for a little bit, until I feel better!
