Status Update

Just in case you're wondering why you haven't heard from my Mommy in a very long time, I wanted to fill you in.

I don't sleep. No really. I don't. Not at all. I can SAY "nigh-nigh". But it doesn't mean I'm gonna DO it. We drink a lot of Venti Triple Soy Vanilla Lattes around here.... OK....maybe just my Mommy and Daddy (this cup is empty).....
But they're drinking so much coffee, that they've had to send me to work....
Another Frappucino Mom??? Really??!
Some of us look a little sleepy during the day, so we like to wear shades. It's a little Tragic Chic. OK, maybe just my Mommy and Daddy for that one too :) But I still look pretty cool.

But seriously.....this is serious business. And yes, we laugh and play during the day, and I'm a really happy guy. But at night, when I lay down, I feel pretty crummy.

Today we went to see a really nice doctor who helps little kids like me. He talked to my Mommy and Daddy for a looong time about what's been going on with me. I throw up a lot. A LOT. And I've been waking up every 30 minutes at night, screaming. And a bunch of other things, that we really don't need to go into right now. The point is that this doctor was really nice, and really smart, and he works at a hospital that does great things with little kids. So in a few weeks I'm going to have some tests done that will help everyone figure out how to make my belly feel better.

Until then, I'm just chillin' in my beach pad, waiting for some answers. I'm pretty smiley for a kid who doesn't sleep, huh?

That's part of my charm!

Growing By Leaps and Bounds

Change is in the air at our house, and Max has so much to say about everything that he's been learning! He's had an explosion of words, and I still have to laugh at how sweet his little voice sounds when he uses his words. He says uhhh (up), dow (down), boo, owwww (out), dog, mine, me, noo-noo (noodles), go, na-ning (dancing), mo (more), yeah, no, nak (snack), eee (eat), wa-wa (water), bah (ball, bottle or bath), caw (car), buh-buh (Baubee), pa-pa (pop-pop), ca-cah (cracker), cah (Scott), nana, ma-ma, da-da, daddy, eah (ear), eye, no (nose), knee, show (shower), shir (shirt), shoe, sure, yo (yogurt or just to say hello!), o's (cheerios), buh (bus), din-din (ding-ding/doorbell), nigh-nigh, moo (move), gah (glasses), vroom-vroom (noise a car makes, of course!), dog, nanana (banana), OK, keys, cheese....and so many more! In fact, he's doing such a great job of mimicking us that when he went for Daddy's toolbox and Mommy said "Oh Shit!", Max responded with "Shi!". And when he spit out an entire spoonful of chewed macaroni the other night and Mommy said "Oh God!", he responded with "Gah! Oh Gah!".

He can point to his tummy, his eyes, ears, nose, face, hair, head, knees, toes, hands, teeth. And oh wow...I said I'd never be the kind of mom who listed all of her child's accomplishments in list form each month, but considering I've failed miserably at keeping a baby book, this is it! So thanks for indulging me!

He's such a little lovie too. He loves to hug our necks from behind, blow kisses, and hold our arm while we change his diaper. He's a social little guy, who always has a "Hi" or "Hello" for anyone we meet. He kisses and hugs all of his stuffed animals, and has even started rocking them and trying to feed them a bottle.

He likes to find new places to sit and explore.....like this little spot...
And crawled right in to the bubble at the Children's Museum the other day....
I think he knows when he's being cute...

Which is often....

And even though we're working hard to figure out what's been hurting his belly and keeping him up allll night long, he sometimes feels like this...

But 95% of the time, he's happy, curious, so sweet and kind, and hysterically funny.

We are blessed beyond words to have such an amazing Little Max.

Down By The Bay

We bloom where we are planted.....

As most of you know by now, we have traded our suburban digs for a beach house. And while the weather here is almost always a mild 60 degrees, and the pumpkins dot the hillsides in what is known as the "Pumpkin Capital of the World", I still had some sadness about leaving the only home that Max has ever known. We brought him home from the hospital through that front door. He took his first steps in that living room. He slept in his tiny cradle, snuggled next to our bed for so many nights. It was where our family began. But we bloom where we are planted, and I know that we will blossom here, in this new home that reminds me of Nantucket every time I pull into the driveway. This new home with windows that look out onto the same ocean that I grew up next to. This new home where you can hear the waves crashing while you walk to the park, and where the family that owns the produce stand by the side of the road knows your name.

Max has found so many special places here. I love how he watches all of the doggies being walked to the beach past our house. He'll stop whatever he's doing and run to the window, yelling "Hi!" and "Dog....woof-woof" to whoever is passing by. Our neighbors wave to him now when they see his little face in the window. He's got his eye on the world, this one...
He's made this house his home. Now that he's big enough for his own activity table, he's found that it's useful for many things. Like snacks....

And writing you a letter....

And perhaps one of the nicest things about our new 'hood, is the park that's only two blocks away. It has so many slides, swings, sandboxes, see-saws, puppies, friends....but the most exciting thing there would have to be the woodchips. Max's favorite way to spend an afternoon is picking up the woodchips and putting them places. Like this little spot....

Or this one....
And yes, we've been warned that in just a few short weeks the fog will start rolling in every afternoon, and it'll get more than a little chilly. So we have to be prepared....

For now though, we're enjoying life on the Coast, and soaking up all of the sunshine we can. Good thing our buddy Nathanael hooked Max up with the perfect beach accessory....

The weather's beautiful....wish you were here :)
